I have a 06RRS and have never updated the nav software. I am wondering if I try the "fix" with the 2008-2009 version and it does NOT work, can I put my original disks back in and run the previous version with the 1791 hack in place? Thanks for all the info!!

If you hack the 2008/9 disc and it doesn't work (it won't... I tried that, see my post above), you can go back to the previous 2006 version without losing the bypass code. The trick is not to load the OEM 2009 disc with loading.kwi file in the drive, the instant you do that you are toast.

Is there any way to get the hack to work on an 08? I had an 06 Sport that it worked on, but when I bought the 08 LR3 it wouldn't work.

Nope. I've been looking into how to do it. The only thing that I could figure would work, is somehow connect to the cpu of a Nav system without the loading.kwi installed. Then grab the software on that computer, and then copy it to the newer cpus on the newer computers. How to do that... I don't even know how to start. So until then I guess.

TO ITERATE: IF YOU HAVE A 2006 OR LATER MODEL LR3 THAT HAD THE 2006 OR 2008 DISC INSTALLED ORIGINALLY, THE "1791 HACK" WILL NEVER WORK.
This is a software issue, and if you want to know what "1791" is, just do a simple search on the forums.
This does NOT mean that you can't get a newer disc to the latest maps, just the fact you can't do the "1791 trick"

Um, sorry, I'm not that good with this hacking business, but I'm pretty sure you meant that the 1791 hack works in 2005 and 2006 LR3 only so long as they have not used an updated DVD from 2007 or newer. It worked in our 2006 HSE.
The DVD for 2007 is when the software change first appeared that prevents the hack, right?

Sorry, let me clarify. Any LR3 that came with a 2006 or 2008 original DVD, a file has been installed that blocks the 1791 trick.

But if your 2006 LR3 came with the 2004 DVD version, then you'll be able to do the hack.

Land Rover releases discs every 2 years. So in 2004, 2006, and 2008. But yes the first software update occurred on the 2006 DVD. Sorry about that, mustbeaudi clarified that for me.

I tried to clear this up, mostly because I get a lot of messages from people asking how to hack their 2007 or 2008 LR3's Nav, which is impossible at this point. So hopefully this post will clear that confusion.

Also the newest 2009 DVD is out and hacked to allow those using 1791 to continue to do so. PM me for more information.

It is pretty simple, actually, and a good time to do it with dealers willing to hook you up on a price. Go back to your dealer and say, "Hi, I'd like to trade in my 2008 RR for a 2005 LR3." He will have a big smile on his face and hand you the keys to the LR3. Then try the 1791 hack and it should work.

Heck, I'm in a good mood this week, I'll do the trade with you! :)

Don't think it works on any 2008s and I'm not sure if/when it worked on the Range Rovers. Read back in the thread for more info.
