I don’t recall having to do that but I do know you can go ahead and install it. If you have a trailer, just then verify lights working, etc. I frankly don’t recall if our lr3 does anything special anyway even if it knows there’s a trailer connected.

Don't skimp on the brake controller

I just wasn't sure if there's a flash or update so that the suspension adjusts to trailer weight?

There should be no software flash needed re the trailer wiring hookup, however LED trailer lights will cause odd blinking of the trailer lights as the system was designed for normal tungsten trailer bulbs.

The link below provides a home built solution to the LED related blinking if it is regarded as a concern. The main advantage of resolving the concern is that then the trailer light on the dash will illuminate when the brakes are applied and that means your 3 knows that a trailer is attached and reacts accordingly. It also shuts off the backup sensors and resolves a number of other concerns.

Of possible interest if the trailer has electric brakes, in the files within the link below is the model number of the "Ford" Tekonsha electric brake brake controller adapter and cable to plug and play connect to the Land Rover C2590 socket under the dash near the steering column.

My Wiring I had no problem a tall wiring it up as long as you have the Link wires which you can buy from Rimmer Bros. The link wires are needed to connect the Tow sockets to your cars wiring loom. Once that is done everything should work

OK so after speaking with 4 different dealerships in 2 different states as well as a couple different independent Reputable Rover shops here is what I was told. After installing the wiring harness a Trailer Ball BCM software update needs to be installed. This update supposedly turns off the rear parking sensors as well as modify's transmission shift points, Braking and suspension dynamics as well.
Now the independent Rover shops have cofirmed what the update does but they have also said what others have, that when doing the wiring harness install if not doing the update the sensors can just be turned off with the button and there was no noticeable difference with the transmission, braking, or suspension
So with that being said it's up to you whether to do the update or not.

The dealerships were around $145 for the software update, I do not have an ODBII device so I am not sure if that is one of the parameters that can be changed with one of those devices.

You might next ask where you can get the "update" for your ODBII device.

It you can find one, I will be surprised.

If there is an update and there might be for something trailer related, it will only be available and installable with either the dealer device, a GAP device or a BlackBox software loader. There may be others brands, but I do not know of them.

I still do not think any update is required; you need just the Land Rover or equal harness and a bit of luck.

If your trailer has LED bulbs, the backup sensor will not automatically shut down so perhaps maybe there is some piece of software now that resolves that concern - but I doubt it. That resistor load device is the only way I know how to fool the 3's computers.

I just now finished re-wiring my LR3 for a trainer, years after the hack-job done by a local U-Haul place. (They also installed a frame-mounted hitch, which makes removing the spare tire a real challenge, but that's a whole different thread...)
I spent considerable time removing all the junk from the hack job.

I received the wiring kit from British Atlantic. It was a nice set-up, with decent instructions and all the supplies one would need.

HOWEVER, things don't always work out as simply as described. I should know this by now, right???
Some things just require a little figuring out, from paper to Rover. Videos would be helpful. As far as I know, there wasn't one available.
Things went fairly smoothly for me, until I realized that the harness is simply too short. Another 6 inches in length would be helpful (no innuendo implied here!).
The instructions direct you to pass the harness outside the bumper, just behind the spare tire compartment, then pass it (somehow) over to the opening that accesses the left tail light compartment. I did that, and I found that there was no way to make the connection; there was just not enough length. So...I pulled it all back out, re-threaded it through the interior of the bumper by duct-taping it to a coat hanger, cut out a small section of plastic to allow it to pass through to gain a shorter distance to the tail light destination. At this point, there was just enough length to make the connection, however reaching the connectors to actually push them together proved to be extremely difficult, because they were situated exactly in the middle of the bumper cover, making access from top and bottom almost impossible. I used screwdrivers, pliers, contortion, and some choice words to make it possible.
If I removed the bumper cover, this would have been a snap, but doing that didn't look like fun, either! ;-/
In summary, making the part of the harness that goes from the hitch/bumper area to the tail light section greater in length, would make a huge difference!

I just added a wiring harness to my LR4 . An update is required or your backup sensors will think you are closing in on a wall. $100 for the update .
