SUCCESS!!

So first, let me apologize for taking so long to complete this test. But the results were well worth it!

Long story short (as you may have guessed), I was able to buy the new fob as listed below from eBay and successfully program it with my IIDTOOL:

The eBay seller I got the FOB is gzbacai201602. For the US, get the FOB that is 315MHz with PCF7941 Chip.

I did have a bit of searching to find a place to cut the key for me - and this story is an added bonus:

After one locksmith recognized the cut (that he could not perform) as a "New Ford key", I decided on a whim to try my friendly neighborhood Ford Dealer. The parts guy said "Hmm let me see it. I'll try the machine and if it gives me a green light, and a good image, It should work". Sure enough, green light, and he liked the image. So he cut it. I asked "how much do i owe you?" and he said . . . "eh don't worry about it - it was just a click of a button". I was giddy.

So yes, I got the LR3 key cut at a FORD DEALER. For free. (Well, yours may not be FREE, but if the Dealer can cut keys, they will duplicate the LR3 perfectly)

I doubt this key has the rechargeable battery, but perhaps another seller with the correct specs could have a better version . . . but for this price, I can buy a new one every year and still come out on top.

So all in for $15 and change - now having a new functioning backup key - I can't stop laughing!

Did y’all use the Gap iiD Bluetooth tool? Or did you use a different tool to program the key? If you used the iiD tool, what is the cost of the tool?

Local locksmith said he has to pull a module to program the transponder and fob. Doesn’t seem right. The videos with the iiD tool seem to only take several minutes to program keys without pulling any parts.

Thanks.

I just got the key yesterday so I haven't had it cut or coded yet....but I was planning on using the iiD tool to do it...i was hoping to find a semi local shop in socal to do it for me if there is any otherwise I'll pony up the cash to buy one (I just already have a code reader so was hoping to not have to if I can avoid it)....might even give satan a call and see if they can reprogram but I'm guessing that won't go great and they'll want me to buy new everything anyhow but I'll let you know as I'm planning on doing it this weekend.

Locksmith wants to charge crazy money and pull my Rover apart- seems unnecessary. Plus, he said my favorite thing “you drive a Land Rover so you know it’s going to be expensive”. I say “not today satan”. Most of the work done on my Rover is done by me, but $200 for 10 minutes of programming is bs. I’d rather buy the iiDtool and start programming Rover keys locally.

Yes, GAP IIDTOOL BT. Already owned the tool. Took mere minutes.
Tool has paid for itself with repairs/mods I've done, even before factoring key programming.

Every LR3 owner should own one. It will continue to return on my investment.

US sellers are around $500. I bought mine from UK for closer to $400 shipped (or less, i forget).
