Anyone have a solution for this? First day out in the parking lot at work, and it has gotten very bad. I’d like to fix it but a used upper dash is $500, and looks to be a nightmare to get it out. 244F60CC-3FD9-4215-97DF-8C7925E38115.jpeg 4A84C359-619E-44D1-8E35-E64366030F5F.jpeg

This is very strange. Was your car in an accident?

No accident that was reported. This was a one owner vehicle in Florida before I bought it.

It is actually peeling up from under the trim that has the defog vents. It is very strange and I have not found anyone else with this issue.

This was an issue on the first-generation Discoveries (my '94 discovery had it). Land Rover's solution was a trim plate that held the dash down. It required removing the windshield to install.

Haven't heard of this on LR4s, though.

I suspected that too until yesterday I tried to see what I could do. I went out and pulled that leather tight and it would not reach back under the trim where it’s supposed to go. It’s like the leather has shrunk and now it’s too small. I mean, even the threads are pulling out of the seams.

Based on your clues, it sounds like possible moisture damage. Do you have a factory LR logo'd windshield currently? If so, it still could be a replacement but if it's a Pilkington or other brand, that would signal a replacement in the past for sure. My point is that maybe the windshield was replaced and not installed properly. Have you had it long enough to go through any rain with it to see if there is water entering around the seals?

Water damage. I didn’t even think of water damage. It’s a pilkington windshield with an LR logo. I never was clued in to a replacement because of the brand on it.

Looking much closer, I can see some trails of what look like liquid. Dang it. I think I’m just going to try and 3M outdoor tape it down. I may call LR and see how much a new pad is. I’m sure this thing has to come off without taking the dash apart to the firewall right?

Not really sure but you'll know soon. As @ryanjl mentioned, you may be the first here to report an issue like this on an LR4. Seen cracking due to sun damage but not this kind of shrinkage (don't you hate shrinkage??)

Sucks that it was in a place where most people wouldn't inspect closely. I have noticed sun-damaged exterior windshield cowling before but never looked that closely just on the other side of the glass to where the dash tucks in.

Please post an update on next steps.

Lol shrinkage.

Since I’m kinda new to the LR community, does anyone know reputable used parts distributeurs?
That’s step one - getting a good example of this dash panel.
