Hi, y’all!

Although it’s been a while since I have communicated, I’ve been checking out the forum.

My ‘03 is in need of a coil pack replacement and I’m considering handling the job at home versus sending my LR to my mechanic.

That being said, has anyone here replaced the coil packs on a Discovery II? I’m hoping to get some tips and/or words of wisdom.

Note: MY LR isn't a daily-driver, so my hand isn’t forced for a QUICK turnaround.

Thanks!

I changed it on my Disco1 without any problems, obviously label your spark plug wires so you don't have issues putting them back in the right spot

Good tip, for sure. Thanks, John59!

Did the job require “special or unique” tools?

I’ll also replace plugs and wires. I’d like a little more performance. What do you recommend?

Oh yeah, I’ll also be replacing the head gasket. Is there anything else I should consider?

How would you rate your mechanical ability on a 1-5 scale... 5 being a master! ?

The D2 coil packs are a Pain in the A** to say the least. Most people will remove the top of the intake to get to them unless you have small hands and enjoy cuts and cursing.

The coil packs are on the backside of the engine heads right next to the firewall. Since you are pulling the heads for new head gaskets, you should be alright. I have a 99 DiscoII and I recommend adding a low restriction air filter. I did and picked up at least 1.5 to 2.5 miles per gallon and nicer pick-up as well.

Coil packs are a pita. Here is a relocation video which I wish I would have done. This is when it is good to have small hands.

I’ve heard they’re a PITA from a few people - must be true. Yay!

I’ll definitely be taking the intake off, thanks!

I figured that I might as well replace the head gaskets while I’ve got everything open and exposed.

Thanks for the tip about the low restriction air filter. Nice bump in economy and performance.

That’s awesome! Thanks.

Are you aware of any issues or concerns with the coil packs being moved to the new location?

I like the relocation idea and may do that one day. Replaced my packs about 3 years ago so no hurry I guess.

Need to ask about the low flow air filter. I use Wix brand and they do a good job. But if there's one or there that could give a bit more mileage I'm interested.

So what brand is this low flow filter?
