I have a 2014 LR4 (V6SC), and I've started getting the P2187 and P2189 codes. I have seen the post on PCV valve, which showed the same codes (https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/pcv-refresh-replacement.40382/) resulting in the issue being a leak in the valve cover. I just spoke with the independent mechanical I've dealt with (I've had the car ~6 weeks, he did the PPI for me), and he said he's heard it's the low pressure fuel pump.

Anyone else had experience with these codes, or fixing them? The other question is how urgent is this issue? My wife and I were hoping to take a long weekend up in the mountains this weekend, and were really looking forward to taking the Rover instead of our former family road trip car (2006 Xterra).

Thanks

Interesting (at least to me) update; I drove the car into work today (it's usually my wife's vehicle), and reset the codes before it got going because I wanted to see if I could correlate anything to the code being thrown. I couldn't feel anything in particular when the light came on (I was accelerating, although my wife said the other times its come on when she was idling/pulling into the driveway). When I re-checked the codes, I noticed that there was a somewhat significant difference in the mileage for each code; Bank 2 (P2189) happened about 10 miles before Bank 1 (P2187).

Think it's relevant? I re-cleared the codes, hoping to see if I could catch it with just one thrown (to see if it's really a difference, and if it seems to be Bank 2 first; I think I remember P2189 usually being the first code, though I'm not sure), but it hasn't hit since I cleared.

My 15 threw threw P2187 and P2189 for a lean condition and it was the Passenger side valve cover breather, vacuum leak. Dealer verified with smoke test and ended up replacing the valve cover (LR109354) under warranty. I didn't notice any drivability issues. I too was up against a long trip but had time to get it serviced.

“Obvious” as in where the smoke was coming out of? I can’t answer that as the dealer performed that test.

I didn’t spend any time on it. It coincided (got lucky) with a planned final “warranty checkup” so I dropped it off at the dealer and never thought about it.

I don’t see why you couldn’t get a smoke kit and figure it out. I have no experience with those kits though so I shouldn’t talk.

Lots of YouTube diy smoke test videos Out there.

Yeah, i was wondering if there was any obvious leakage from the valve covers. I took a closer look around the engine bay, and looks really hard to see much. I'm sure with an older, more spacious engine bay it would be possible to see the leaks, but not in this bay.

Just trying to see if I can drive on it for a long weekend. Not finding a lot of info /experiences online with this code.

My 2015 had the same issue with the vacuum leak at the PC valve diaphragm. Throwing the same codes as yours. It took 6 trips to the dealer for them to finally find the leak.

I put approximately 8000 miles on the Rover during the dealers repeated attempts to resolve the issue. I think your weekend trip should be just fine.

So an update (and I mentioned it in the other PCV thread): I did take it on the trip, and it was mostly good, except it did have a new symptom.

It rev's really high on cold start (sometimes), maybe to 3000 rpm or more, and holds for a little while before coming down. It also threw a misfire on 4/5/6 code. I was fiddling with keys this weekend, and the codes got reset; I just checked again and the lean on banks 1/2 is back, but the misfire isn't. My local independent seems convinced it's the high pressure fuel pumps, I'm a little skeptical considering what I've been reading here about vacuum leaks, especially since it starts ok, just has a little trouble holding an idle when cold.

Another thing: he's telling me that replacing the fuel pumps will be $2500. That seems a little high to me; he itemized $950 per pump. Is that accurate? Atlantic British lists a bosch fuel pump for $270 (I'd post the link, but it seems as if that isn't kosher on this website); heck, Rock Auto lists a Bosch pump for $155. I understand a mechanic needs to make some money on parts, but am I looking at the wrong part somenow?

Hey I'm having the same problem (P2187 and P2189) with the wife's '16 LR4 (SCV6). I was thinking a vacuum leak and I hear some slight hissing from the do-hickey on the passenger side valve cover gasket, but hard to tell if that's normal at idle. What was the resolution in your case Delta V? hmmm - Delta V sounds like an automation problem?

Also, having a devil of a time finding a detailed service manual for the 2016 LR4/Discovery with SCV6 engine (gas). Dealership won't sell one and I can only find manuals for the LR4 w/V8 thru 2014. Anybody know where to find one?

Land Rover's Topix is the ultimate solution, but it's one you've got to pay for.
