Google Rhino Hitch LR4.

Pricey, but I have never heard a complaint from an owner. If I towed regularly with the Rover, it is what I would get.

Atlantic British also offers a bolt-on that looks like the one from Walmart. It's more than $50, though! Depending on what you intend to tow, a $50 hitch may be all you need. Any discussion about alternatives would have to include more info about your particular use case.

Per @avslash above, I'm a very happy owner of the Rhino Hitch. It bolts/clamps on like nobody's business, leaves plenty of room for a full sized spare, does not interfere with departure angles, and it just looks cool back there. It is currently sold via the snomasterusa.com website. Here's a link to a photo I took over 3 years ago on its 800+ mile maiden voyage. https://www.instagram.com/p/BF7Dw5DOcrj/

Rhino hitch looks interesting and great that it doesn't take hardly anything from departure angle. Would be good to test fit a few of the styles to see closely how they work.

From photos the Walmart/AB style one has rigid vertical support where under tow stress pushes in to vertical chassis member and very little if any rotational stress on bottom attachment point if nice snug fit. Rhino one seems to rely on hinged pull on recovery point. Because it is hinged looks like under tow stress it may put some rotational stress on the two bolt bottom attachment. Attaching them loosely might give better idea of any possible weakness if any..

Hey what do i know.. im sure rhino guy did his homework.

The Rhino does attach via a sleeve through the factory rear recovery point. There are two additional bolts and intentionally deformable washers that mate these bolts to the cast holes on the factory receiver (the Rhino provides its own holes for trailer safety chains). On top of this, there are two bolts that secure a hook device back near the spare as an additional safety anchor in case TSHTF.

The seller has certified test results on the original design. My understanding is that there was a minor upgrade to the design after I purchased mine. I contacted the seller to ask if I needed to upgrade and he said no, mine is still good to go. The specs on the Rhino (it’s a Class IV-rated hitch) exceed the specs of the LR4’s own towing capacities in terms of tongue weight and overall towing capacity.

Doing a side-by-side comparison would be helpful...also costly. If you’d like any other RW impressions or photos, LMK.

Thanks very much. Sounds like the Rhino one is well up to the task and best for heavy duty towing.

I typically only tow around 1600lbs, trailer and contents. My LR one came off but took a little persuading. Only been on about a week. Im going to thoroughly clean the receiver hole especially where latch pin goes and lubricate it again. I already serviced the LR adaptor with graphite lock spray some time back. For interest I might get the Walmart one and check it out ~$100 Can. If I do I will post my thoughts and pics. Cheers!

The factory hitch is commonly referred to as "the plow". The Rhino hitch sits where all receivers should be.

On a related topic. The key to my factory hitch broke off in the key hole. Any tips on how I can remove the hitch?
