Title says it all. Wife came home this morning and the dial shifter wouldn't shift out of Drive. I activated the e-brake and turned the car off (probably not a great idea?) thinking I would disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes and see if that helped. It didn't.

Now the car won't start, the dial shifter is stuck UP in D position, and I can't disengage the e-brake either. I have a tow scheduled to take it to my mechanic in about an hour, however the emergency release underneath the cup holders isn't engaging N now either. Worried they won't even be able to get the car on the bed.

Has anyone faced this issue before?

If I remember correctly, there are two releases under the cup holder. One is for the parking brake and the other is to put the gear shift into neutral.

Just one release.
The lever releases the transmission parking pawl.
If the vehicle is on an incline, the lever can become difficult to lift.

I fixed it by getting to the TCS, disconnecting then unplugging & reconnecting the jumpers. When I turned on the vehicle, the knob went down and into park. Longer story was I followed the guide in the link @nechekan, then added a zip tie to never have it lock again. I uploaded a video of it. Just follow the description

Anyone here replaced the TCS? Some of the other online content that I found states that it requires a "re-coding" which has to be done by a dealer. True?

I also came across a service xemodex.com where you send it to them and they repair it, send it back, and it is then plug and play, no coding required.

I've pulled it out, flipped the level with a wooden dowel, and manually turned the shifter. The solenoid is good as I've testing the resistance and connected to a 9v battery and it actuates. Inspection of the board does not show any dark/burnt marks, but it definitely has a hot/burnt electronics smell.

Correct, as I understand it (and equally for Jags) the TCM is only configurable at the dealer. I also believe they are “paired” to the vehicle. Which may limit your ability to source anything but a new module.

Silly me, you're just replacing the shifter. I read too fast and thought you were messing with the TCM...
