broiler, all LR3s have the Navigation brains and DVD-ROM reader under the seat... well, if equipped with factory Navigation, of course.

This is likely a GVIF (the video interface) bypass solution.

Keep us posted. I'd love to have that available for my LR3. If it's as easy as that I'd definately do it.

thats good news for me, i dont have to be the "test pilot". haha, anyway from what i heard, saw, read this looks like the best option. be sure to post your pics and opinion. i should be ordering within the next two weeks.

What DVD player did you decide on? I may just go with a custom built car pc. not sure yet. the DVD players are cheap and easy to hookup. This is the one im looking at, i like the Divx options.

Im looking at the Directed DV2605 w/ TV tuner

also looking at some Directed, a Kenwood, and a few others that may offer Divx.

Update:

Part purchased today and should be here Friday latest. Bringing it into the shop for install Monday night, didn't want the backup cam they were selling. Getting a GMC Suburban/Yukon cam that is angled, not straight ahead, modded to fit near the top of the LR3. The angled cams give you a better view and no glare since they point more downwards.

Haven't decided on the DVD yet, I might hold off on it. I am having them add cable for an ipod video. With moving overseas to Turkey and not going off base to often, no reason to drop a few hundred on the dvd, plus I wanted to add 2 drop downs for the kids. I can always add it later.

post some pics of the unit when you get it. if its not too much to ask i would love to see the install directions. i agree with on the dvd player not needed yet. maybe a tv tuner though so you can get all those great AFN channels. looking forward to see the outcome. hope it works out great for you.

here is directions from G-Net canada (if anyone is interested). i assume from the description that the unit from NY is very similar.

NAV screen auxilary install

Whoa - apparently they don't sell enough of them to be able to pay someone to proofread their manuals. Sheesh, a 5 year old could have caught half the errors in that thing.

Plus, they have their years mixed up on the LR3 (came out as a 2005) and the Range "Lover" Sport (came out as a 2006).

Having said all that, the carPC screen looks pretty sweet

yeah, they should have hired my 5 year old niece to write these intructions, at least you can get the idea with the installation. this setup looks pretty clean and easy, cant wait to try it out myself. sucks that even if you properly hookup a screen or backup cam the nave unit cannot be activated. on the disco uk forum they cover this extensively with no success yet. i guess its all about how much you want to spend.

Thats the original one I was waiting to get. They have been out of stock on that unit for 6 months now. I likes that it had the VGA plug that would let the nav unit be used as a PC screen. No ETA on when the item would be available and the only other unit I found had only 1 video input. So this ones going in tomorrow. I'll keep everyone updated when I get it back tomorrow.
