Multiple repairs on a 70K miles 2013 LR4: what can I expect next

I bought mine new in the summer for 2013. It only has 65k miles. The only failure I've had is the rusty rear brake lines and the rear hatch mechanism. All else I've done preventively, which are: - Front lower control arms and hubs at the same time - Transmission fluid and new pan - new gas tank...

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

I used both the GAP tool and also confirmed it with an IR thermometer. The bottom of the pan temperature matched the GAP tool temperature. As an update, I have not done a long drive yet, but after a 10 mile drive still no leaks.

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

Well, it's done. In summary, I found draining and pan removal to be super easy. I found I did have to chase those threads and that was a PITA. Same for fitting the screws and tightening them. Filling was honestly not too bad other than it took 20 minutes for the fluid to warm up. Maybe it's the...

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

Thanks guys. My plan was not to apply the RTV (silicone RTV, FWIW) as a gasket, but rather apply and scrape smooth with a plastic scraper so as to only fill the minute cavities, effectively re-smoothing the surface.

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

Well, I am convinced that what I am seeing is not dirt and gunk, but rather some kind of pitting. It feels squeaky-clean when I run my finger by it. So either that thing gets milled down (not happening), or I just go with it. I am tempted to apply sealant, but honestly, I will just give it a...

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

I'm in the middle of the job right now. All good so far (captured ~5.5 quarts). What I am having an annoying time with is cleaning the surface of the housing. Even full-strength CRC on a towel is not loosening it. I've used the scrubbing side of the blue 3M scrubbing sponge and nothing. What...

    "Rust-proofing" treatment with Dinitrol

Yeah, I've been symptomatically hitting the underside of the car with that stuff since basically new. It has helped keep the worst at bay, but I think it is time for something more comprehensive.

I am considering doing what is shown on the video. Any thoughts?

Coolant pipe replacement every 5 years on V8?

We've had our since new at 12.5 years and 63k miles. I've had the parts for the job for two years now but keep being too busy to get around to doing it. That said, the car is always garaged and for the last several years it has seen less than 5k miles/year. I really mean to do it this year...

    2013 LR4 HSE V8

Interesting. I did notice something sketchy about the rear parking brake when i did the rear rotors. One of the springs was broken and I replaced it btu the entire parking brake assembly still seemed to move around. I ended up leaving that side wound up, effectively mechanically disabling the...

Interesting. Good to know. How did you track that down?

    2013 LR4 HSE V8

A while ago (never been rebalanced since mounted new many years ago). But I know it is not the wheels or the brakes. It behaves exactly the same in the winter tire set as it does with the all season set. Tires are mounted on different wheels. Rear brakes are practically new, fronts have like 5k...

    2013 LR4 HSE V8

Well, put the car up on the lift and could not see anything wrong. Zero play/movement on the bearings. All bushing look ok to me. No tears on the boots of the CV joints or anything else I could see. What next? Should I bring it to the dealer to see if they spot anything amiss? I don't have a...

    2013 LR4 HSE V8

I'll take a look at the rear wheel bearings. Thanks! The front ones I just replaced a year and only 3k miles ago.

    2013 LR4 HSE V8

Every time this happens I'm driving in a straight line in the highway. Gun to my head, I would say it's the passenger side rear wheel area. It's much more feel than it is noise. What it seems like is almost as if something is rotating "fine" and past a certain point (higher speeds), whatever is...

    2013 LR4 HSE V8

Bump. Having same issue. Would love to know where you landed on this. This only occurs at higher speeds, usually above low-mid 70's but sometimes as low as 65mph. The car will start experiencing heavy vibration that feels almost as if you just lost a low of air pressure. First time it happened...

Rigid brake line failed - need help with info on parts

Final update: Muffler was welded back on and all is well.

Rigid brake line failed - need help with info on parts

Thanks anyway! My understanding based on the diagram, is that the rigid lines go from the rear corners as a straight shot all the way to the engine bay and that the only way to replace them "by the book" is to do a body-off-frame job. The lines are also so long that it is impractical to ship...

Rigid brake line failed - need help with info on parts

3rd update. Success! From researching, it seems I must have had air in the ABS module, which cannot be fixed manually. Luckily, the GAP tool has a setting for this. It asked me to open the bleeder valve and then "pump" the brake pedal in each corner. Not sure what it meant by "pump." Push once...

Rigid brake line failed - need help with info on parts

2nd update. I performed a brake flush with a motive pump (dry method). I did all 4 corners until new fluid came out with no bubbles. The reservoir was close to empty (?) when I started. The good news is that I see no leaks under 20 PSI and after pushing the brake pedal. The bad news is that...

Rigid brake line failed - need help with info on parts

I'll follow up my own thread for the benefit of others. In short, the fittings are M10x1 bubble (aka single flare) fittings. I did most of the job today. A few observations: - It's impossible to the the job without removing the exhaust, and since I did not want to deal with the cat flanges...

Rigid brake line failed - need help with info on parts

I didn't find much info, so perhaps this thread will help others. It's been a while since I've been active primarily because we don't drive our LR4 much and it has been good. Our 2013 only has 62k miles, but it has seen New England salt every winter since we bought it new. Yesterday, the red...

    LR4 winter tires - 2025 edition

I would agree with you. However, most people in the Boston area, for example, don't use winter tires. I'm the only one I know in my office that uses winter tires. And my in-laws and many others in Montreal, until Canada made them mandatory, didn't either. And by real winters, I don't...

    LR4 winter tires - 2025 edition

I have heard nothing but excellent reviews for the Cross Climate tires. They are my go-to recommendation for people needing a year-round tire in an area that gets real winters.

    LR4 winter tires - 2025 edition

I'm sure you guys get pretty intense snow! Nokian have studded tires as well that apparently are amazing but winters in the greater Boston area are not what they used to be and the LR4 has been invincible in non-studded Hakkas all these years. We do go to Montreal and skiing, but again, never...
