Well, I spoke too soon... after 10+ starts OK, back to hard-starting, consistently.

Hmmm... the connector onto the ignition amplifier module at the distributor seems
awfully loose, so I tweaked the fingers tighter.... 10+ good starts over 3 days. Problem
licked, right?

Nope. Hard starting again this morning. Definitely a real bugger of an intermittent.
So, next on the list: coil, ignition module, and fuel pressure regulator.

That's the problem with intermittents... if you don't catch it while it's misbehaving or
have some way to make it consistently misbehave, you have no chance at all of
finding the problem.

This might sound stupid, but could there be an intermittant, loose wire problem with the alarm system? Seems strange that you have good spark, fuel and compression and an erratic starting pattern.

Next time it won’t start. Pull the plugs and see if they are wet (Gas) if dry your injectors aren’t firing. Or the ECU is not telling the injectors to fire. ECU’s do fault on these trucks its big business in the UK to have them fixed and or checked. The ECU tells you when there is something wrong not when there is something wrong with itself.
This has happened to me, my brother and my cousin.

He will explain it to you.

Also like the posting before it could be a loose alarm wire.

There's plenty of gas smell, that's probably not the problem.

I also replaced the ignition amplifier module, and regapped the pickup, and replaced the coil.

I'm sorta split between replacing all the injectors (on the grounds that maybe they're just not spraying, sorta dripping) and replacing the ECU.

Neither is cheap or easy.

Help??? Anything else?

Oh, and I also replaced the fuel pressure regulator. Still no help.

And run 2 bottles of Techron (fuel cleaner) and a quart of Kreen (another cleaner)
through the system. No help.

What do I do now???
