Does the 2006 LR3 SE V6 have to run on premium gas? I want to buy a LR3 but don't want to pay for premium gas, any help with this would be great.

I've run my V6 on regular for 45k miles. I don't tow anything nor do I accelrate very quickly.

Have you had any problems with it, does it run fine?

Anyone else run theirs on regular or know if you can?

Why would you risk it? Gas is $3.20 a gallon right now for regular, $3.40 a gallon for premium. This is a 6% adder - nothing compared to when gas was $0.80 a gallon for regular versus $1 for premium (25% adder). If you drive 20,000 miles a year and average 15 miles per gallon, you are going to buy 1333 gallons of gas. This works out to

$4265 on regular
or
$4532 on premium

Or ~$270 difference. To me it is probably worth the $270 (or $135/ year if you only drive 10,000 miles).

Just my $0.02.

$3.40/gallon for Premium? That's a bargain. We're at $4.09-$4.29 here in Northern California.

Dang Rich, Quit telling everyone where the cheap gas is!
To protect the innocent, I know this guy with a V8 LR3 and he ran it on the cheap low grade stuff for while while his wife was between careers. The car had no issues/notable changes. YMMV.

This has been discussed ad nauseum, but I really don't consider it a risk. I've almost never used premium in 13 years of owning LR's. I'd rather keep the $300 than send it overseas. Also I never really drive mine (v8) hard, so the performance loss isn't noticed. I'm surprised that the V6 even recommends premium.

Ouch. But that makes my point even more valid - the small uplift for premium becomes even more negligable. IMO, if you are going to pay $4.20 a gallon, $4.40 isn't going to make that much of a difference.

I just split the difference and use the mid-grade fuel myself.
