2010 LR4 Third Brake Light Housing Replacement

My third brake light lens in the tail gate is cracked. I ordered a replacement housing but I can figure out how to remove the old one. Anybody have any hints or tips?

Is this answered anywhere? This is something I'm looking into as well, but the only thing I've found so far has me busting the light out with a hammer. (link below)

There has to be a better way to do this right? I was thinking heat gun if I have to remove the adhesive, but maybe there's a better way that isn't shown.
