I have a '99 Disco II. While driving home from vacation my disco developed that clunking noise when letting off the gas and reapplying it. I was hoping to make it home so I let it go until the front driveshaft completely disengaged from the rear. The loud bang didn't seem to do any damage to the undercarriage.

Two questions: I noticed a front driveshaft on brittishpacific (aftermarket) for $399. Is that a good price? Also, how difficult are these to change out?

Not hard to change, but you can get a better drive shaft probably cheaper if you look around. I would even give Nathan @ www.discountbritishparts.com a call, he may get it cheaper or let you know where to get one.

damage was worse then originally suspected. had the vehicle towed to a reputable mechanic and he informed me i would need a new transmission from damage sustained by the swinging front driveshaft (at highway speed).
