A couple questions about my Rover

Hello. 98 disco 1. I have a few questions about the operation of a few accessories.
1. The rear view mirror lights/dimmer do not seem to work. What are come common problems/fixing solutions?

2. My Cruise Control does not hold speed. The hoses hold the pressure and the round baloon stays depressed when I create a manual vacuum on the hose removed from the vacuum up front. additionally, the light on the crusie switch comes on, and the brake pedal switch is in correct operation/placement. Thoughts/suggestions?

3. I have looked for the drains on the sunroofs, however do not see. Locations?

4. I have read here about cleaning the engine and surrounding area. Words used were "power scrub" is this the same a high pressure power wash-the spray type or the brush on a wand type? Are there any areas to avoid spraying or just give it hell and clean, clean, clean?

5. I bought Rover and he had no keys with remotes. What are my options for remotes?

6. I have seen an available add-on option of rear jumpseats. Are 98's equipped to safely restrain passangers in a jump seat?

First welcome to the forum....

1 = Mirror is bad and may start leaking I would replace.
2 = Check to vacuum pump to make sure it is working, could be the cruise ECU is bad.
3 = If you open the sunroof and stick your head up there you will see the small 1/2 holes on either side that is the drain.
4 = I don't know, in 7 years I haven't cleaned mine yet... dirt and oil keeps it from leaking.
5 = Remotes = eBay but will require the dealer or someone with auto-logic to program.
6 = the Jump-seats themselves have the seat belt attached to them, Safely restrain is a debateable thing... some like them some don't, I will keep my opinion to myself.

Concerning #4 - just take normal precautions - i.e., wrap your electrics in plastic as best you can - don't go wild with a pressure hose as you will end up blowing-off bits and pieces you never knew you had. Be careful around your injectors - i.e., just use common sense. I have had good results with using a citrus/engine cleaner and just rsning off with regular pressure tap-water. When a certain area got really grimey (like around the eternally leaking steering box) I used a pressure wand attached to my shop air supply and it would be blowing a good degreaser onto that area - clean-up with regular tap water.

#6 - they have lap-belts attached - and obviously they are not going to restrain the same way a shoulder belt will - then again - the jump seats face sideways so, under most normal impact situations (i.e., from the front or rear) your passengers will be simply banging their heads sideways. Its hard to say just how well they restrain though; on the other hand, kids love them (kinda fun if you have a Landi full of kids who all want to head off to Mickey D's at the same time - they will actually fight over who gets to sit in the jump seats)! So, I think they would be fun for local trips (certainly for kids) but I am not at all certain you would want your eight year old in one of them for a long haul down the interstate.

The original idea was for offroading - where you could have somebody jumping in and out of the back of the vehicle to clear obstructions, check the trail ahead - or check on a trailer, etc. I can think of many African bush roads I have been on where that feature would have been mighty handy. But here - in the wilds of North American suburbia - they have to be for the kids.

#6 I've got an SE7 with jump seats & lap belts it has interior trim to accomdate the seats & hardware.

Personally, I'd be too cheap & lazy to retrofit

Thanks for the answers to 2-6. I do not understand what you mean by the mirror leaking.

The lights simply do not work, nor does the dimming function. HMMM.

The rear view Mirrors were known to go bad, when they do it will eventually start to leak the internal liquid all over you dash. When this happens it will ruin your dash and anything it stays in contact with for any length of time. The mirror manufacture use to replace these for free, but that has long since been the case.
