Hello all,

Just purchased my first Rover. It is a 96' Disco SE7, 4.0l, Auto, with 307,000 kms.
She runs great but has a few problems that I'd like to nail down.

First off is the cruise contol. I checked the vacuum lines and brake pedal switch. After cutting off the cracked portions and re-attaching it still won't work. Any suggestions?
Second - Rear wiper won't work. The fuse is good but that is all I've checked so far.
Third - Passenger side power seat is acting up. The seat front tilts up and down intermittently, and the rear bum portion is stuck in the tilted up position. When you work the control you can hear a slight clicking noise but no movement. This one drives my wife nuts since she don't like sitting so high up.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

First...hmm...does the little light on the cruise control button light up? Its the one that has the bridge looking or skateboard looking icon on it. If it does, then your vacuum pump might not be working. On a D1 it sits under the bottle jack area in the left front of the engine...

Second...I dont know. To get mine to move, I need the main wiper switch on the stalk near the wheel turned on,then the drivers side door must be closed, and then it will go. Is the motor tryning to move it? Perhaps it has been stripped back there and damaged? Is it held on tightly, or is the securing nut loose?

Third...this is the only one I might actually have an answer for. Spray some WD40 kidna liberally, but dont go too crazy, INTO the seat switch. I belive this just cleans off most of the gunk that can get between the switches and the ball bearing system in there--its a pretty poorly designed setup. But the WD40 rescued my drivers seat which did nothing but tilt more and more back LOL, and has worked for many other owners. Just spray, let it soak, try to move the switch...spray some more...spray some on the lower rails and other moving parts under the seat you can reach too--hell, you can never have too much WD40 right???

Here's an update,
the dash light for the cruise does come on when pressed. I havn't had time yet to check out the vacuum pump, or the rear wiper thing yet. I did however get the power seat controls working!
I removed the control pack from the vehicle and completly disassembled it. Be carefull, it's full of tiny ball bearings and springs! There was a pile of dust and crude inside the controls. Plus, all the contacts were extremley oxidized and dirty, kinda like the inside of a distributor cap and rotor get coated with use. I washed all the crud out with soapy water, rinsed well, a blowed dry with compressed air. I then took a scrub pad and some emery cloth and cleaned all the contacts and the rockers. When reassembling, I coated the ball bearing, slide pins, and the side of the rockers the ball bearings ride on, all with a non-conductive electrical lubricant called "yellow 77". This stuff coats the parts and then dries into a slippery film. Hooked the switch back up and she works just fine, and with a nice fluid movement to boot. Scored points with the wife on this one!!!

On the cruise, check the "T" connector on the firewall Drivers side (if Left hand drive) it may be cracked, the can do that. Also check the hose going into the pump just behind the drivers headlight.

I replaced all my hoses when in days of buying my Disco and have never had a cruise issue.
