OK, the battery problem was a bad alternator.

now to deal with the overheating problem. i did exactly what you said to do before, to attempt at getting rid of an air pocket that may be in the line.

When in park you can let it run for hours w/o a problem. As soon as you drive 3 blocks it overheats.
I put it in drive w/parking brake applied Rev-ed it to about 1800 RPM and the temperature shot up and caused the engine to overheat.
