I have an 01 Disco II with about 90k on it. Purchased at 50k and haven't replaced the battery or alternator yet.

Left the truck on when I went into the store and when I came back out the battery light was on. Went off again while driving and then back on several times. I have read previous threads about the tachs and speedos either going crazy or dieing but haven't seen this on my vehicle yet. I have since turned off and restarted the truck next day and same issue today. No noticeable dimming of the headlights but I did notice the odometer dim and get bright again when the battery light went off a few times while driving at night with headlights on.

I will try the test I read about with removing the negative battery cable and seeing if the truck stays on. Other than that and getting the battery tested, anyone have any other advice?

Do not remove the battery cable while the vehicle is running... bad for the ECU.

Sounds to me like your Alternator is on its way out... source a new one.

Testing procedures are with vehicle off, check voltage at the battery.
With vehicle on, check voltage at the battery.

Bad idea this morning

So I had it tested last night and the guy at the store said I needed a new alternator. It was still running fine so my ******** decides to drive it to work today and of course the alternator died on the way. So now I have to change it on the side of the road 30 miles away from home.
