I have a quick question. Is there any way (without going to the dealer) that I can reset my check engine light in my 96 Disco. I have been reading about a box under the passenger seat. I have read different accounts but I think this is on a 95.

Any help would be appreciated. Also, is there a way I can read the failure code before a reset.

Thanks,
Paul

Is it the Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon light? If it's the CEL, you've thrown a code which AutoZone, etc. can read for you. If it's the SES, do a search on this site for where to find the reset box.

If you have thrown a code, your truck is a OBD2 managed system and must be cleared after the repair by a good scanner or a test book.

It is the check engine light. Will the folks at autozone know where to hook up to it? Also, will they be able to reset it?

Thanks.

Mike:

What does OBD2 mean and how can I tell if it is or not?

Thanks,
Paul

Yes any parts store or shop knows where to hook into the OBD2, they can read the code but will not reset them. You have to get whatever is wrong fixed before it is reset or it will just come back on.
