Could replacing the air filter improve fuel economy? I've reached 25,000 miles in my LR3 and have been averaging 10 mpg or less in city driving. I don't drive with a lead foot or run the vehicle hard. I do realize that I'll never achieve great mpg's with my LR3 and knew this when I bought it. And if my mpg's stay at the same level I'll still think the LR3 is the best rig out there. But, if there's a way to improve mpg performance I'm all ears. I'm not complaining just looking for tips. Thanks in advance.

Yes.

Check the air pressure in your tires too.

tire pressure as stated, clean air filter... current tune up if needed.

No rabbit starts or stops, drive with care and moderation... you should get better than 10 mpg, unless you towing something or you have a lot of mods and oversized tires.

The factory interval on an Air Filter is 60K - Ludicrous!
Air Filter
Tire pressure
Drive gentle
I'm @ 11.5 w/ expedition rack and 265/65/R18. Numerically, that's more like 12.1 mpg since the speedo is off due to tires.
Not much you can really do.

I averaged 19 mpg between Portland and Seattle Sunday. Between Centralia and Seattle (approx. 100 miles) where the speed limit is 60 mph for the most part, I got 20.4 mpg.

Driving gentle and keeping it under 70 is the key I think.

I can hit 20 mpg's on the highway, but city is less than half. I'm going to pop in a new oem air filter, I'll report back with my findings.

I'm doing more than "hitting" 20 mpg. I AVERAGED it over 100 miles of driving....that's pretty good. In the city, I don't do as well, but I'm around 13 or 14. I don't think the air filter thing will save enough efficiency to warrant its cost. ...but that's just my opinion.

you don't have to buy a new filter, just use a shop vac on it, that will get you more life out of it. I did it a few months ago after the San Diego fires. I think it made a difference. I also vacuum it after a desert trip.
