I have just purchased my first Land Rover and I am pretty pumped. I have a lot of questions and am eager to learn. I'm a gearnut to the core, so don't be afraid to pepper me with tech.

Let's start at the beginning.I have a 1998 Discovery LE. I keep hearing about Series I and II and Disco, etc. What is the difference?
Thanks, y'all!

The 99 1/2 - '04 Discos are a litttle bit wider and longer and have a more cushy ride. '94 to early 99 Discos are simplier to work on.

99 and earlier are Disco 1 or series 1 disco's. 99.5 - 04 are Disco 2 or Series 2 disco's 05 and newer are Disco 3 or here in the states LR3.

This is not to be confused with the series Land Rovers i.e. Series 1, 2, and 3 1940's through late 70's... not sure on the exact dates off the top of my head.

So, I have a 1999 Discover LE. The way I read it, that would be a Disco 1 or a series 1 disco, correct? Disco is just slang for Discovery, eh?
Like Vette for Corvette, Stang for Mustang or Cuda for Barracuda?

Tu goddit mang... Series 1 Discos ran 1994 to early 1999 in the states. The Disco actually goes back further in Europe. 1999 1/2 - thru 2004 are considered Disco II's. Disco i's have lower tail lights as well. The Disco II's tailights are bigger and mounted higher up.
