dome light

My interior dome light is acting wierd. When I open the door the dome light will flash 7 times and shut off. It works when I turn it to on but with it set to door it only flashes and turns off. Can anyone let me know what this is?

Could be a loose connection behind the door switch or perhaps the door switch sticking. Give the switch a short squirt of WD40 or simular product and see if that fixes it. Does it always flash exactly 7 times because it's only an on/off switch???? Just wondering!

I'll start my post by saying that I have no idea what the problem actually is, nor can I speculate.

I love my land rover, however I wouldn't even be surprised if it meant something as absurd as like "your rear left tire pressure is down 7 psi" or something. The complexity of the electronics simply baffles me. Maybe a friendly person at your land rover dealer would tell you what it means?

It's been my experience that there are 2 things that cause this. Both are electrical. One is a part called the MFU (no it's not the mother f**king unit) its the multi-function unit. Among other things it acts as the time delay circuit for the interior light. It also makes the light turn out when you get the key in the ignition and start the car.

The MFU may be on it's way out...if it's not already. The item is not serviceable and must be replaced. It is one of the many small boxes under the driver's side dash near the fuse box. It is a simple unplug, plug new one in process. Call one of the big parts suppliers for a price. I don't think it's too much.

The second possibility is simpler and cheaper, so check this first. Inspect and tighten all the ground points under the dash on the driver's side. I think there are 3 or 4 different ones, so check them all. Sometimes, the MFU doesn't get a good ground signal and will cause the same things.
