Door handle

So there has been numerous negative comments concerning the poor quality of LR3 unpainted door handles. I agree, and now faced with decision, two handles broken, do I replace all four, paint or not, and is the door disassemble a pain in the weekend. New handles average 90.00 apiece without door gasket.

You don't need to disassemble the doors to remove just the handles. I like them a lot better painted to match the car (I painted the ones on my RRS), but de gustibus...

What exactly is wrong with the unpainted handles (other than the fact that the black plastic fades over time)?

I do agree that the color coded handles look far better -- or the silver-ish ones on the 2009 / 2010 models, but I'm not sure what is inherently wrong with the unpainted ones.

So, how do the handles come off?

Here is a thread off the RRS forum on rr.net. Everything you need to know is in there, since handles design and removal / replacement procedures are virtually identical on LR3 and RRS. See some useful tips on page 2, you get 500 bonus points if you manage to remove the end caps without breaking any clips.

I like the black door handle. It survived two off road direct impact. but the door itself didn't...
