ok, son called. 11 LR4 making a few noises when EPB engaged, disengaged. They they stuck on; had to pull the manual release. dash indicates "parking brake fault".
3 yrs ago, i was tired of issues with this and purchased new LR actuator/cables and took it to local specialist who replaced the actuator, shoes and hardware. Worked great until last week. From the noises he described, i suspect it has overwound and now stripped the gears. Why were these EPBs so horrible on the lr3 and 4 and the biggest problem is if they were going to need replacement/service why make them so ^*^% hard to get to on the LR4.
I see new units for between $1100-2000 not including the large amount of labor required.

I agree 1000% and mine is not working, but apparently they were designed to require cleaning and adjustment at least once a year, if not every six months. From the many videos I have studied, the cables and adjusters need constant care since the the drive box is very intolerant even slight out of sync setup.

And again, wish for simple lever and cable setups, but apparently the LR EPB is tied into some of the hill descent and other traction ECU systems.

Another thing...many after market shoes are total crap and actually designed/built incorrectly. So even a clean rebuild can cause failures in a short time because of how the shoes grab the inside of the disk hat
