Anyone seen this kit installed or have installed one themselves ? Is it a simple plug into the wiring harness kind of install ? I know there is some mounting to be done for the trailer plug itself which is no big deal. After reading some posts here of suspension faults happening after the dealer installed theirs I wanted to know if I should have my dealer do it incase the same faults occur on my rig?

Figured I'd post a response to this as I finally installed my trailer wiring harness this past weekend. The install is easy and the instructions are clear. It really comes down to how much your time is worth.

Assuming like most people you will have never done this before and will only do it once, its going to take you some time. Just carefully taking out the light, removing your jack, dropping the spare tire, tucking the new wiring safely away, etc.

So, anyone that wants to do it, don't hesitate, its an easy install. If you'd rather spend the few hours doing something else, pay the shop to do it.

For those that HAVE done this, as noted on the instructions I was able to tack up 2 of the three "wiring points" (I'll call them) on the exterior cable that goes from the plug to your tail light. That wire has 3 different attachement points. A hard plastic body connector (no problem), a rubber frame connector (almost no problem) and a long plastic connector with a mystery white plastic bar (?) underneath it. No idea how to connect that last point and since its up and out of view I don't see how you could do this. Still, the wire is secured in 2 of 3 places and goes snugly up to the tail light.

I was amazed with how carefully all the wiring is thought out in this vehicle. Every one of the plugs is secured to the body or some type of harness. Its all been designed very well.

Don't have a trailer handy, so, I don't know if the kit works, but everything else in my truck still does. Its a passive connection that didn't go inline with any existing wires so I wouldn't expect any changes.

Hope this helps,
-todd

I did purchase mine from my local dealer and installed it myself. No big deal. At least I got to drop the full size spare in the driveway for practice instead of on the side of the road. I too noticed that the swinging weights that reside behind the rear bumper did not allow me to attach that one securing point on the harness. I managed to get a few zip-ties on it to keep it out of the way. Pulled a motorcycle trailer with two bikes and a tool box. All lights worked great. When you turn on your blinker there is a small trailer light symbol that flashes with the dash indicator. I guess to remind you your pulling a trailer.

The only trouble I ran into are two things. That damn Land Rover plug in receiver monstrosity is in the way for trailers with large ball heads. I struggled to get the trailer un-connected because it kept hitting that knub that sticks out on it. Eventually had to pull away and lower the suspension in one movement to get loose. Then trying to get the Land Rover adapter to drop out of the connection took a hammer and some side to side taps before it would drop. Hope that loosens up over time and usage. I am going to look at receiver hitches with a longer neck to move the ball out further away from the Land Rover adapter to give me some more room.

Yeah, that thing is a pain in the ass. It rarely comes out easily and I can only imagine it getting worse over time as rust forms and such.

In my opinion, someone tried to get a little too clever there and made it harder for the owners in the end. K.I.S.S!
