Faded Knobs

Why are the audio and temperature control knobs on most of the used LR3's I look at faded and look awful? Any fix?

I have an 06 and my nobs look new as day one.

No fading on my 06 either. I wonder if its some cleaning solvents. Could be the culprit of the hood lettering demise too

I've got an 05 that has the faded knobs. They were faded when I bought the LR3 used. I've tried everything to fix them and no results.

My radio volume knob was tuning white, I removed the knob and cleaned it with vinegar and water and a terrycloth towel. The knobs are rubber coated and I think pretty much removed the top surface.
