10K miles so far, came out of restaurant after a big meal:biggrin:, got into the truck as usual. Step on the brake, push the button...What? "smart key not found" ?? tried a couple times with no luck. Then got out of the truck, lock the door, unlock it , got in again, then the engine started as normal....

Well, another bug on my list now...

I have had the Smart Key Not Found on a few occasions. Usually I just have to place the key under the steering column and the issue resolves itself. Once I did have to get out of the vehicle and get back in.

That's not true. There is a battery in the key fob, although you should get a "low battery" warning in the dashboard display, as stated in the owner's manual.

Check p. 10 of the 2011 LR4 owner's manual. I don't know how to post a piece of a pdf, but there is a picture of how to replace the battery, and says:
To renew the battery:
1. Press and hold the release button.
2. Open the side cover.
3. Remove the battery drawer and remove the battery.
4. Fit a new CR2032 type battery (available from your Land Rover Retailer/Authorized Repairer, with the positive (+) side upwards.

As part of the diagnosis of a recent electrical issue the head tech at my dealer told me that there have been instances of smart phones interfering with communication between the smartkey and the truck when both are carried in the same pocket or similarly close proximity in a purse. Maybe this applies to your situation.

Sorry, the LR3 key was built this way. The LR4 uses a different fob and it has a battery.
