I have a 05 lr3 and I noticed last week that my fuel gauge stays on full now and does not move. What can cause this and is it a do it yourself job to fix?

This can be caused by filling up the truck with fuel and then not driving it. It then just stays stuck on full. Yes, it is a DIY fix. You simply need to drive the truck with the engine running. HA!

Thanks so much a**h***. Actually drove a couple hundred miles. Was wondering if this could be a fuse or the fuel senders i've heard of.

The fuel gauge is activated from a floating sending unit set up. If it is stuck, it is not from not driving it but 90% of the time from a stuck float, 10% from a failing gauge.

ALLSTAR , my gauge is still acting up. Havent taken it in yet though. just been watching the mileage. It starts out fine then once it reaches 3/4 of a tank it sticks or actually rises back slowly to full. Its crazy stuff.

I would really suspect the fuel tank sending unit. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure on the LR3s, this is built into the fuel tank. So, the whole tank would need to be replaced as opposed to some certain vehicles where just a defective sender unit can be swapped out. A quick look at MicroCat seems to confirm this. Replacement of the fuel tank is a 2-hour job at the dealer, too, if I recall correctly.
