I think LR engineers should come up with an onboard valet... to turn on lights, drive car, etc...hehehe...(not sure that would keep some from complaining about inadequacies, though)

We're all adults. Lets just remember to turn on/off the lights. You remember to pull up your zippers on your pants don't you? (hopefully)

In all seriousness - I dont know of any vehicle (SUV or not) that has these 'auto' features - at least not European.

Yes we are and as such we are hurried and rushed. Are you going to come and and jump start my truck when my wife forgets to turn the lights off after driving in a snow storm during the day and manually turning the lights on? Or after she is driving in the rain at night and wants to use the fog lights??? Probably not... As someone else mentioned, this wouldn't be as big of a problem if fog lights had a seperate control like they do on ever other car I have owned, and/or the put in a automatic shutoff to protect the battery.

But then again should I expect for 50K that I would get the same common sense features that I had on a car that cost 1/2 as much and is over 5 years old?

...i have to concur with neytas here. Either use the auto feature or don't. Heck, my wife wouldn't know when to use fog lights one way or the other. For her its just lights on or off. Auto would work fine. 95% of the time I only turn on the fogs anyway because I think it makes the truck look cool! :) (and if i do leave the lights on, my LR3 beeps at me when I take out the key)

Canadian models have daytime running lights. They come on when you take it out of park.

My Disco 2 turns on the headlights and marker lights whenever I take it out of park. The only lights that do not come on are the dashboard lights and the interior indicator lights do not dim.

That's becuase its the law in Canada. I think the LR dealer can enable this on the US models, but it still doesn't solve the fog light issue....

This might need to be a separate post, but I have an 06 LR3 with the stock headlights. Has anyone upgraded their headlights to Xenon/HID? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks much

Buy the expensive parts from your local service/parts department or alternate source... and install them. It's "unsupported" of course, but you can go ahead give it a try.

Fog lights was not in the initial post .... would have to reroute 12 VDC feed to lights to get them to work independantly. I would prefere the rear lights on as well ... keeps the rear of the truck from being hit ...
