HELP!! Disco with twins on the way!!

Hey,

First post!

I am on my 2nd Disco (current 2003) and went to install 2 rear facing car seats for twins that are on their way in a few weeks. Once installed, I did not have much room in the driver seat to drive.

Anyone have any similar situations? Any car seat recommendations? THey have to be rear facing in the states.

LOL. What planet are you from? Twins and a Land Rover? Do you want my minivan? I thank God my kids are now of legal age. Maybe it was empty nest symdrome but I just had to adopt a Rover. And I thought my kids ate me out of house and home! I have had my Disco for about 2 weeks and have spent about $6000 beyond the purchase price already. I think this car will put a dent in their inheritance. I'd never own it if I had to think about saving for their college fund. If I'd had the disco first I might not have had the kids! Now there's a thought. Hindsight is always 20/20! But chances are that when your twins were being conceived...you weren't exactly... thinking? Sorry...I just couldn't help myself.

I used to think life would be easier if I just pitched a tent and lived in the emergency room when my kids were younger. Now that I have adopted my disco I realize I have just traded emergency rooms...from the hospital to the Land Rover dealer. My 19 year old son has nicknamed my disco "The Beast." He drove it to get parts for his car and when he came home he tried to lock the door by pushing the button down and closing the door. The car kept unlocking them. He finally gave up and locked the door with the key. He said, "Mom, that beast is posessed and I hope I never have to drive it again." I silently cheered "YES!" He then fixed his car, went to the mall and called me on the phone to tell me he had locked his keys in the car while it was still running. I think "The Beast" is turning out to be the smartest one of my kids but there is always hope.

I would install the seats in the rear seat area .... airbag in the passanger side may cause an issue if it deploys!!!

you'll probably have to live with it for a year or so...
I haven't picked up my "new to me" DIsco yet, but I did use the evenflo seat/base combo with some degree of sucess in the Wife's 94 Saturn. I just left the handle in the upright position which saves about 1.5 inches on its length.

I am sure by this time your twins are here and yopu can no longer think like a human being, but when the time comes to upgrade (my boy out grew the "baby" seat about a month before his 1'st birth day) Check into the evenflow triumph 5 (good for about another year or 2) as teh recline makes it great for naps and small children.

I picked up an Evenflo Bolero "big boy seat" (booster w/integrated 5 point) a few months ago, (my sons legs were too long for the Triump 5 and it's "high" seating meant he was kicking the headrest in the Sports car) and so far have been very happy with their products...

I'm betting tommorrow when we go test drive the 97 disco I have been eyeing that it is gonna work out great.

Especially the adjustment of the straps, and the "one side at a time" latching mechanism.

jlberry, what planet ARE YOU FROM?

Did you READ the post? They said twins on the way, and that they are on their 2nd Disco. That would imply they owned it before the kiddies.....

BTW, what's wrong with using one for kid-haulin'? I use mine to haul my boat & Jet Ski's so *** if they want to haul kids, more power to 'em. I'll prob end up in that boat soon too. Remember, not all LR owners are old turds!

Yeah? Well you don't have to squeeze your boat thru the rear doors. Nor does it need a ladder to climb in on its own.

yah, what the **** are you saying. We are on our third land rover... most recently just moved from the discovery to the LR3... I have 2 infants, not twins, but 15 months apart, and I LOVE having this vehicle... safety is A+, and all the space in the rear is excellent when dragging along all of the gear that babies need. My thoughts toward your reply is that you "adopted" an ancient discovery and expect it to function like a new vehicle, and as far as service, yes after the warranty goes out it does get expensive, but don't own one if you can't afford it and then ***** about it. Sounds to me like you need a Hyundai! The beauty of driving a landrover is respecting what this vehicle is capable of doing... one thing I know, I won't get stuck in a hard place, or ever have to worry about being in bad weather when driving my children around.
Before we had our second child we shopped around, but before I'd drive the bus-like navigator or excursion... we returned to the land rover dealership and I'll never regret it... as to space, we used the graco snug-ride, when the base in tight, it gives you a little play, and then we moved to the COMBI Avatar seat... that is about the best it gets in order to give you space up front. Goodluck with the twins! Have fun and trust me, you'll love the car you're in when they come. after all, what type of mom REALLY wants to drive a van or a bus!
