I am the owner of a 2000 Land Rover Discovery with 90,000 miles on her. I have had a terrible sputtering problem in 4th gear. Everyone has told me to change the plugs, wires, VSS, valve job and everything under the sun with the exception of changing the mirrors to fix the problem. I had my transmission fluid changed and had a friction additive also introduced. Although my tranny fluid was clean it had lost it's properties and this loss of friction was causing my vehicle to hesitate terrible in 4th gear. So if anyone has this problem and can not get it fixed try a tranny flush and a friction additive, if it is the cause of the problem it will be fixed and if not at least you will have clean transmission fluid.
