i found out a new feature today, the dome light waters my console. after some torrential downpours today i had some nice water coming in through the small hole beneath the dome lights. i assume the drain tubes are clogged. has anyone blown them out themselves?

I think people have, but I have not personally.

I live in Washington state, and everyone knows, it rains a lot in Washington. However...the thing about Washington rain is that it rains frequently, but not a lot per shower. That said, I haven't had this problem (knock on wood).

About a month ago, I went to the dealer with a laundry list of things to look at before my odometer turned the 50k mark. One of the things was the drain tubes. Interestingly, the dealer guy said he couldn't look at it unless the customer states that it has occured or that it's an "issue." I just looked at him and said "so, if I were to walk out that door and come back in and say 'hey, my sunroof leaked I'm concerned with it' then you'd look at it and blow out the drains?" He sort of looked at me, nodded (understandingly) and added it to the work-order.

So...if you are still under warranty you can certainly get it done. If you're not, there is a thread on here (I'm pretty sure) that details how to do it. There was also one detailing how to snip the bottom of the tubes to prevent future back-up. It may've been on another board though too...not sure. May've been the disco3.uk board or whatever it is.

Good luck!

much worse than i thought. after i moved the passenger mat i saw the entire floor drenched. so i spent the morning with a shop vac and towels trying to rip up the cable tracks and soak up whatever water i could. my rover is made to wade in some 3 ft of water but took an A$$ woopin from some rain.

so tomorrow will be the dealer test to see if they pull apart at least half that interior to dry it properly. i never knew the upper kick area of the floor had 5+ inches of foam padding under. that made the water absorbtion worse. the interior is pretty much snap together but hard none the less to get apart.

tip of the day: insist your dealer cleans your drain tubes at every service.

Your tip is a good one if the owner's car is under warranty and they don't mind stretching the truth and saying that they've experienced water ingress (see my above post).

For someone like me who is now in extended warranty, it will cost me $100 to do that every time. I supposed that from your standpoint it's worth it!

i was once a sunroof installer and we offered free yearly sunroof maintenance for the life of your vehicle. in fact, it was required or your would void the warranty. this is almost worth it, especially if you have to take it in sometime for something else. LR is funny about customers self-help. that is why im leaving it up to them. i may make some changes if this becomes a problem more often, more than likely after the factory warranty is up.

Yeah; definitely if I am in for something else under extended warranty and have to pay the $100 anyway, I'll mention water ingress and get the drains blown.

I had the same problem with my 2006 LR3. I finally discovered what the issue was. On two separate occasions I had to water once coming through the air bag area on the side of the door and a second time I had the water coming through another part, I don't remember where.

It comes from opening the door during a rainstorm, consequently some water now is sitting on the inside of the rubber from the door and once you close the door that small amount of water travels to different parts of the interior front of the car. Once that water dribble is gone you can drive for hours in a driving rainstorm nothing is going to come inside

this was definetely from the sunroof. it started dripping through the domelight. plus the amount of water that i was able to vac out would have had the door open for the entire storm.

took the rover into the dealer today. turns out the drains were not clogged. instead, some vehicles had the tubes installed incorrectly at the factory. they were crimped from the beginning and finally backed up enough to overflow. i did not ask what models were affected but im sure its not all 2006. i would still have the dealer check yours at the next interval.
