Anybody found a good locking pin for the latest hitch receiver? Found one made by Master, but it was too narrow to lock. Found another one at Advance, but it was so flimsy i think i could have yanked it off by hand.

LR doesn't offer one unless you by the whole kit, which i'm not interested in.

Thanks,
kevin

bbyer,

It's not a safety issue that can be fixed by chains. My concern is that i don't want someone stealing my slug (that's what we call the part that slides into the receiver where i'm from) and hitch. I want something that locks that in place. Even though i live in a really nice neighborhood, because of that, people come through it every night and pull door handles on any car parked outside to see if they're unlocked. They'll steal anything, and i don't want to lose my slug and ball. Does that explain it better?

Locking pin for 2.5" receiver perhaps

Reese has a number of different bar bell type locks; I imagine Curt has something similar but the link below is for a Reese pin that will fit a 2 1/2" receiver as well as 2". The pin diameter is nominal 5/8" which is what I assume the LR receiver requires.

I imagine the problem you are running into is that the width of the cast box section of the LR plow is wider than the usual HSS box sections that are normally used on American pickups.

As such, the locking Reese 63223 hitch pin which is 5/8" OD should work as well as the Reese Bar Bell part number RH-5XL model. I also see the Master Lock unit on the web site but it is only good for the normal 2" box section type hitches and not the LR cast unit as you have determined.

There is also this anti rattle locking pin set up but I do not think that it will work.
