In searching, I am seeing a lot of tow hitch receiver issues, but none with this exact problem.
I have my keys, but initially could not even slide that tiny rectangular silver hole cover to access the hole. After spraying it with WD-40, I convinced it to slide open with a screwdriver only to find it was packed full of sand/dirt. After spraying cleaner in the hole multiple times, and removing the debris, the key still will not fit all the way in. It may be the mechanism is jammed or a larger rock or something is still in there.
Do I have a regular locksmith take a swing at it, or go to the dealer? I just need to remove it for off-roading this spring.
