Okay so I searched the forum about seat switches. My passenger side does not work and my drivers side works when I start the vehicle then decides not to work. I pulled both of them off and both switches seem to work on drivers side but not the passenger side. What fuses control the switches and how can I determine its the motor? Thanks and its a 1997 Discovery with 140K miles. It has been a great vehicle to us and I have put 100k happy miles on it.

It might take two people but get a voltmeter and see if the switch is sending any current to the motor. You'll have to find the wires for which direction you're using on the switch but some trial and error might show a current. I'd try it on the driver side when its working so you know you're on the track with what you're doing.

On my 2000 DII the pas-side is moody (must take after my wife since its her seat). Not often, but once in a while it won't work and little wiggle of the wiring harness fixes it.

Start by checking fuse 6 in the facia fuse box. If that is ok there are two relays under the drivers seat. the one with two black wires, a light green/white and a black purple wire. try replacing the relay with a known good one. The clue here would be if the drivers seat works with door open key off and then won't work with the key on. This relay controls the right seat and the drivers seat when the key is on.

I tried switching relays with all of the different ones

I think I am going to give it another shot then go ahead and take a picture of under the seat since I removed the plastic part already. That way I can label it and make it easy for me to understand what you guys are talking about. Thanks for your reply because its driving me nutz.
