98 Land Rover Discovery 62k miles
$7300.00 everything works - some dings and marks on the body - saw carfax no major accidents or other issues - needs front tires and alignment
I test drove it and it drives nice and breaks well - all fluids look maintained
3rd owner has had no problems or required service other than normal oil/brakes and owned it for about 1.5 yrs - getting rid of it b/c he has two Jeeps
I did see some oil drops on the oil pan but I dont know if that is just common for a motor with 62k on it or could it be the rear main seal? I read somewhere that these cars are prone to rear main seal leak but not sure if that is limited to only certian yrs - from what I understand 97' and 98' where the best yrs for the D1
If it could be the rearmain seal anyone know rough estimate of that work?
and would it still be worth it

some advise or confirmation that this sounds good would be helpful

thanks
chris

Acually it was the '98 and '99 years were the best for the D1, but at $7300 that doesn't sound too bad.

The dealer wanted $890 to replace my front and rear main seal. $700 of that was for the 7 hours of labor though and another $100 was for an oil change...

Hmmm my rear main has been leaking for the last 3 years and 40+k on miles (don't drive it much).

I just make sure it is full of oil.

I notice alot more sound... but with a 4.0 liter V8 and a 4600lbs vehicle.... I didn't notice much, well at least not with the 31 - 10.50 - 15 mud tires I have on it. With factory tires I may have noticed something.
