Been shopping for a new to me LR3; today drove an '06 w/49K. First time driving the LR3. Around 65-70 miles an hour, steering wheel had some vibrations to it. Not severe, but noticeable enough that if I were driving it any longer than a test drive at that speed it would really bother me. Not sure if this is the vehicle (doubt it) or if it were particular to the LR3 I drove. To current owners-is this something that just happens in the LR3 or does this sound like another issue?

No, thats not natural. Sounds like one of two things:

1.Tires need to be balanced.
2.Alignment needed.

Either way, not a very expensive fix if you like the LR3. Just have them correct the problem before you purchase.

Fyi, mine has a shimy in the steering at 45- 50 MPH so I know exactly what you are talking about.

could also indicated worn tie-rod ends, ball joints, or control arm bushings. Would be worth having an independent mechanic check it out before purchase.

Thanks; indy rover specialist is going through the car tomorrow; hope it gets a clean bill of health with only minor issues to be addressed.

Or how about all 3! My '06 LR3 is getting a front-end overhaul right now. What a bunch of BS, I put a new set of tires on and took it to the Dealer for alignment and they said they could not because of the tie-rods(both inner and outer on the passenger side were worn. So I figured I could live with a little shimmy between 45-55 mph. So I take it in to fix tie rods and guess what, they found all kinds of problems. The steering was fine, no pulls or vibrations, just sloppy off-road handling . I hope I'm not getting ripped off. Please share your thoughts.

Sounds to me like it is just in need of a front end overhaul....Fresh bushings and an alignment solved all the issues in mine...

When I took my 97 in for brakes I was given a price for a front brake job and 1 rotor replacement. I think 250 for brakes and 100 for the rotor total 350. Then they call my wife and tell her it's gonna be 595. So i called them to ask what the extra costs were for. I was told they only replace rotors in pairs. So I said OK I'm pretty good at math 250+100+100=450. Sounded pretty simple I then asked what the other 145 was for. I was told Misc things needed. I then told them not to do the work and I did it myself. I do not trust them to repair just what needs to be for what it should cost. Tie rods are simple and once you get them off the car take a matter of minutes to replace if they are not corroded on to bad. Just put it in a vise and count the number of turns it took to get it out and give the new one the same amount of turns going back in. You can get a fork to remove them from harbour freight for next to nothing.
