I have an 02 Disco II 4.0 V8 90k miles.
Love the car, but shortly after doing some maintanace I started having a knock. I drove about 15k miles with no issues at all. I just used the oil suggested in the manual for the first 15k miles and changed oil every 3-4000 miles.
After reading some advice from another LR forum I used rotella at the next oil change to clean out some "gunk." Well, it worked. After 250 miles, my engine started tapping. Dropped the pan and discovered some chunks had dislodged and gotten stuck in the oil pickup screen. I cleaned it out. Scrubbed out the pan and ran Sea-Foam and oil through the engine twice. The tapping cleared up, but after driving the Rover about 40 miles the knock started.
Symptoms:
Knocks only after engine is warm,
Knocks in neutral or park and follows the RPMs
Knock completely goes away once there is load on the engine (put in drive hold down brake)
Question:
Haven't taken the pan off again yet, but could it be my bearings?
