locked out

I have a LR D2 1999. Someone tried to break in and broke the door key cylinder (ie if you put the key in lock it just spins around). Apparently this caused the entire care to lock down. AAA came out three times and tried to unlock it to no avail. Towed it to LR Dealer who wanted to charge me $1200 to break window and get in that way. Having it towed home. Curious if I do break the PS Window will the key work in the ignition or will it still be locked out. If I can get in an disconnect the battery will this help. Having a really hard time finding out info on this subject.

Try putting the key in the ignition, turn power on, and press the unlock button on the fob. Post if this worked. You will need a new door lock mechanism, a locksmith can change it to be keyed to your existing key. Alternatives are likely more timely and expensive since the body computer must be reprogrammed if you change out lock and key entirely. The key will have to be programmed so the car accepts it. Hope this helps some. If the lock is broken completely in the superlock mode there is not much you can do, the door latch assy must be changed completely.
