Can anyone tell me what this part is called and what I would need to purchase in order to stop it leaking?

This is on the driver's side front inside the wheel area. Grease appears to be oozing out of the open area. The passengers side is completely clean, nothing but brake dust in that area. I suspect there must be some sort of seal or boot there, but its so greasy i really can't make out the difference between this side and the clean side.

Help anyone?

Thanks!!

Adam

First of all where is a ton of grease? I think I see a little bit there. If its leaking from the hub it would most likely be the hub seals.

yeah, its hard to see there, but its quite thick and the entire inside of the wheel, as well as all surrounding parts are coated in it. the RH side is comparitively clean.

I am not sure what to call it, but the part i am referring to the part circled in the new pic here. I guess its a bad picture, because the grease in that area is at least as thick as a screwdriver tip, all around that area. Perhaps "hub" was the wrong word, but yes I agree some sort of seal.

Anyway, that appears to be the source, any ideas? Thanks!

I hate to say this, but I wish my rover had that little bit of grease.... this doesn't look like at issue at all if you ask me.

I would show pics of my greasy front end, but it might scare some people or make you think I don't take care of my vehicle. In reality thought this is nothing to be concerned with.

The reason I didn't reply earlier is I didn't see any issues... sorry.

hehe well i kinda thought that might be the case, but compared to the other side, which is basically clean except for brake dust, it is oozing rather prolifically out of that spot. I just don't know what it is. I guess if it's not a problem, I won't worry about it... just would like to know what it is, in case the grease finally runs out and it siezes on me or whatever. Tahnks :)

If grease is coming out, there must be a place to put it back... Check for a grease fitting or if a ball joint is near, maybe it is dripping.

I agree with Joey, I whish to have a Disco that clean underneath. I can assure you it is not a common Disco look and maybe it is not grease after all. You do not have "tons" of grease in the joints and they are not leaking much even the rubbers are worn out. As it is on the Left side (except UK & SA vehicles) it could be a leak from the steering pump (very common on LR'S) dripping his way down. My wheel swivel and steering joints are packed with oil and due to sand and brake dust it looks like grease when it dries out. I don't think you should worry to much.
