As stated in one of my earlier posts. I wanted to share my experiences of my recent purchase of a pre-owned 2006 LR3 HSE. I've had the truck for about 4 weeks now and the purpose of this post is for others to learn from what I've been through. I did do a great deal of research before I did purchase this truck namely here and other boards. I really want to make it clear that by no means am I here to bash Land Rover. For the record I'm totally in love with the truck. And if this post is able to help at least one person I would be satisfied.

After owning the truck for about a week I started to notice that I had the dreaded slamming into 1st gear curse. To make things worse I also had a issue where the tranny would stay in 3rd gear unitl about 5,500 rpm. This was totally annoying. So I took the truck to the dealer and had them look at it. Long story short they re-flash the tranny with the latest software. On my way home the truck started the slamming into first gear thing all over again. I called the dealer and they said that the tranny had to re-learn again. Plus the 3rd gear issue came back too. After doing some research on the boards I learned that some of the dealers werent doing the reflash properly. I shared this with my local dealer and the service writer said that they know what they are doing. So I got the 2nd reflash. Same thing again none of the problems fixed. I then go one more time to the dealer and there is a different service writer there. I explain my issue to him and guess what. He says that they learned 2 days ago that they werent doing the reflash properly. They reflash my truck in about a half an hour. And sure enough no more slamming into first gear. Issue one solved!!!!

Issue # 2

The truck being stuck in 3rd gear unitl about 5,500 rpm.
I have to give the dealer props for this fixed. It took them about a day to firgure this out as my truck was in for the navigation not working properly. The navigation was setup in the wrong zone by the previous owner. But to the main issue being the transmission not shifting properly was due to my tires. I didnt realize that when I bought the truck it had 3 Brand new Michelin tires and 1 brand new Goodyear Tire. Basically the service manager explained how having mix-matched tires would throw off the sensors and not let the truck shift properly. I thought this was total BS. But I took their advice and got a brand new matching Michelin tire. Sure enough after installing the tire the shifting problem went away. Issue 2 solved!!!

My last bit of advice is that with me being in the automotive industry and dealing with end users on a daily basis I know that by being respectful would get you better service than being ass and screaming at people. If you think that the person that you are being a ass too will really want to go above and beyond to help you out. Your wrong, the truth is that they wont.

Nice - happy to hear your problems have been solved. Are all your nav issues solved too?

Good post too - it is always good to see how the issues were fixed.

I have to agree with your point on being calm. You definitely need to be firm and escalate up the chain of command when you know you are right....but you get more flies with honey than vinegar. Service people deal with screaming unreasonable people all day and just tune out. Plus, anyone can get mad and lose it, it takes discipline to explain things and influence people intelligently.

Good post! Glad to hear you can now enjoy your truck.

proof again that a smart service person at the dealer is the best thing RR could invest in.

Transmission jolt

I live in Dubai and have a 2006 LR3. I am amazed that you have actually gotten the transmission problem fixed. I have taken this to the dealer 3 times (a monopoly dealer in the Emirates) and all three times they say they have "reprogrammed" it. All three times the problem reoccurs.

Additionally, they added some type of transmission cooler. Still do not know what it was or what it is supposed to do, but it also failed to correct the problem.

It would help if I could specifically point out what they are doing wrong in the reprogramming. Any help you can provide in that regard would be very helpful.

Thanks

Jerry I would have your service guy call the Thousand Oaks CA Service Center and ask the techs what exactly they did. I believe it was something as simple as them exiting the reflash program properly. If you dont exit the reflash program properly the flash wont take. The Thousand Oaks service center phone number is 805-267-3600. Any of the guys in service can help you.

Hope this helps!!!
