This "transport mode" is truly bizarre to me. I'm no mechanic, but the idea that a computer changes the mechanics of gear synchronization sounds like they are just trying to add other explanations that nobody can really understand. And why does putting it into 'lousy mpg' mode aid in shipping? Obviously it is a problem as people have seen results by having it redone.

askewed, remember... lacarruk1 is the one who had the dealer that just gave him a new '06 replacement LR3 before even attempting the "Transport Mode" reset on his old '05. Maybe he'll get a third LR3 in 1000 miles or so if they screw up again.

Nope. Filling up with a 2nd tank of gas on the NEW truck and see if the mpg problem persists. I will take it to the dealer for analysis if it does next weekend. Will keep you all posted.

1st tank of gas (off the dealer's lot), the gas light came on at 236 miles. Kept driving and got total 251 miles (with Range showing that 7 miles remaing). Mix City and Freeway driving, as nice and slow and easy as I can. LR3 Computer Average varied from 10.6 to 12.5 mpg.

Just filled up 2nd tank (21 Gallons). Reset trip computer, waiting to see what happens.

Like someone else said before, reset your computer on highway and cruise for a while. If it doesn't show 17~18 mpg, I suspect you have a problem. Most likely the "transportation mode" issue again.

Just returned from the annual ski trip in the mountains. Reset the trip and fuel mileage at the first fill up and never touched it until I got back. Total mileage was over 2000. Average was 17.8mpg. That was 1300 miles of highway at 60 - 80 mph.

Oh, and the Nitto Terras rocked in the snow. Had to pull my buddies two wheel drive Grand Cher out of the driveway twice. What a hoot.

do you have the 255-55 or the 285-60? That is great mileage, esp. for being in the mountains!

That is with the 285/65 18's. I live in the Dallas area so the 1300 miles was mostly across flat land. Still not bad.

Hey everyone, great lil community you have here. I'm really glad I stumbled onto the site, it's been pretty informative.

As far as this thread goes, I'll chime in on my vehicle's performance (or lack there of). I have an 05 HSE with about 1200 miles of mixed driving (mostly highway). I've never cracked more than 11-12mpg or 260'ish miles on a full tank. Not complaining here, I love the truck otherwise and the dealership I purchased my LR3 from (Massapequa Land Rover, NY) has been aces since day 1. Thanks for the heads up on the possibility that the truck may need to be brought in for the "transport" fix. This may be a distinct possibility of my poor gas consumption. I'll post an update after I bring the truck in next week, going to have them look into that while they're installing my tail light guards. ( I draw the line when it comes to drilling into the car frame )
