My remote doesn´t work

Hi there. I have a 2006 LR3 HSE. I can´t open or close the doors with the remote, nor does the Landrover button work. The car starts and there in no indication in the dash about key failure or low key battery. Does anyone have a clue what this might be? Regards from Iceland. Thor

It has either lost its programming or is faulty. Only the crystal ball @ the dealer knows for sure...

Funny though that the car starts without any problems. The dealership told me that they were almost 100% sure that the key wasn´t the problem when I called them. I´m having new key made but it will take me 2 weeks and the cost is close to 400 US$

Thor, why is that key not covered under warrenty. From my point of view, you would think it is an integral part in actually opening the car (unless you have to keep using the manual entry feature under the door handle), as well as, using the safety features that the key comes with and LR advertises (hatch entry only, dirver door entry only).

Just wondering, seems foolish to pay $400 bucks for a key that is "basically" the only way to enter the car. Go the safety angle with them on this (kids in car, wife coming to car in a dark area of town), see if it comes out different.

If it's not the key, then its the truck itself and that should be covered. Sounds
like the dealership (like most others) need to be prodded into taking care of the problem.

THe key has two parts, the shank, which is basically a very fancy version of the metal key that has been around forever, and the remote.

Even if the remote does not open the car, the key will start it. It has no transponders, chips or anything. The remote is a remote.

I'm stumped why they have you paying for the replacement key, unless you ran out of warranty already.

Thanks for the input guys. My dilemma is that I just inported the vehicle from the US. I myself live in Iceland and the local dealership is not that wild about guys like myself. When i got the vehicle there was only one key with it and that is also the reason I´m having another one made. I guess I will wait until the new key arrives and see if it works. If not than it is obliviously the truck itself. But thanks a million guys. Regards, Thor

Hi duck. I am yet to meet a dealership that likes the gray market. The price for a fully equipped LR3 HSE is around 120.000 US$ in Iceland but the one I just imported came in at 80.000 with all fees and customs. This makes their pricing look quite bad. So to get even they charge 400 for the key while the same thing cost me about 50$ for my Audi.
