Sorry for the seemingly low priority question…but I need help regarding bulbs. I did a search, but didn’t find exactly what I needed.

1999 Discovery II bought used

Only the right rear running light appears to be working so I took off the covers. I don’t have the numbers of the bulbs as I’m working a two week shift in Prudhoe Bay in the oilfield and am trying to get this squared away for my wife. I vaguely remember a R5W bulb which left the guys at Napa strangely confused.
The arrangement of bulbs the previous owner used seems to be mix and max, and after trips to Schucks, Napa and a call to Atlantic British-I’m even more confused. Are dual filament bulbs used on the 99? I don’t recall seeing any when I was inspecting them. I have a fear that they just put in whatever they “thought” was right.

Could somebody please give me the generic bulb numbers for the light under the red housing? Since nearly all the bulbs were burned out, I don’t know which socket is for running/brake/turn….a top to bottom install plan would be useful (i.e. the 1870 goes in the top socket…) I know it sounds like it should be easy enough, but nothing is ever as it seems.

Thanks,

Peter

Wish I could help, but I never write down the numbers... I just tend to pull them out and replace them as needed.

I too tend to replace in kind as far as bulbs go...but in this case what's in there is either incorrect or too Euro and is confusing everyone.

thanks

What I have found is if I take the old bulb in to NAPA or similar place they can match it up in short order (if the one you pulled out is the correct part to begin with.

Hi;

Take extra care that you match those wattages though as LUCAS electronics is notorious for giving you a nice melt-down or fire - regardless of fuses in line or at the box! Generally speaking the LR bulbs tend to be lower in wattage than North American of ***. Up the watts by even 5 too many and you can get a melt-down - its quite impressive!

What I have done, over time, is simply build up a bulb-kit that I keep in my vehicle with the recognition that, while LR's are the best production 4X4 available anywhere in the world, they are also suprisingly 'dainty' in the electronics department.
