Need help to remove engine oil filler cap

Hi I have 96 Discovery with 65.000 miles on it.
I normally do all of the maintenace on it but have a
very unusual problem....

I just drained the oil from the car and went to add
the fresh oil, but I couldn't get the engine
oil filler cap to budge. I tried using a mallot to tap
around the edges, but it has cracked off... :-(

Now what I have left is the rubber ring sitting in the spout
and I can get the new oil into the car to drive it.
Any idea how I can get this thing off without cracking
the plastic spout (so little pieces won't go into the engine)?
