This is the whole story. My friend just got a 1999 disco series 2. It was wrecked and rebuilt. It has 20,000 miles on it. The S and M come on sometimes and flash meaning there is a problem in the tranny im guessing? It puts the car into limp mode and the car is slow as hell. The Check engine light came on and i ran the code with an OBD2 reader and it came up with a low current code. When im driving the clock and everything that has a back light seems to pulse, like a bad alternator. Im going to get it tested at autozone. Sometimes if i turn on the A/C or turn the lights on the radio turns off and back on. The person who owned the car before me had a system in the car because i can see a red power wire comming off the battery. I had the battery tested and it is fine. Can these symptoms be from a bad alternator??? Any suggestions? When the S and M are not flashing the car runs like a dream. Since the car was wrecked and rebuilt he is going to sell it to me for 4500 bucks. Im just wondering if these are small fixes or if they are huge problems. I guess i will have to try and take it to a dealer and see whats wrong. If anyone can help me out i would greatly appreciate it!!

Could be a bad alternator, or could be bad wiring under the dash. I would check the alternator first of course, but my question would be how bad was it wrecked? And did the person that put it back together have a clue about rovers?

Also you can buy a 99 D2 for not much more than your $4500 in non-wrecked condition. I've seen them in the $5500 range already.

It was hit from the side, insurance totaled it. I took a paint meter to it and the doors had been replaced the passenger side fender replaced, the rest of the car is stock. I have no idea who rebuilt it. I highly doubt that its just the wires under the dash. If they were messed up it shoudlt effect the performance of the car.
