Hello

I just bought a 2015 LR4 HSE 3.0SC engine (62k miles). I am really enjoying the vehicle and have performed a simple service (oil+filter/air filters/cabin filter/dumped liquimoly injector cleaner in the tank and full checkup for leaks - thankfully none).

Unfortunately i do not have documented past services on the vehicle except that it was serviced at the dealer up to 23k miles)

After reading many threads here about the engine, as well as owning a 2010 jaguar XK 5.0, i realize that its a very sound idea to change the waterpump + 2 crossover pipes even though they are not leaking at the moment.

Questions:

1. Have the pipes been updated for the 2015 MY model thus negating the need to change them (as the chain tensioners guides were updated in 2013MY)?

2. I get some light hesitation and rough idle on the get go with the gear in drive, once the car gets moving it runs very smooth, as well as idling smooth, is this likely a tune up issue (fuel system flush/sparks) or a more serious matter?

I would appreciate any insight on these two issues as i am not so tech savvy and would not rather end up with a blown engine.

Cheers

Welcome and congrats on the purchase.

With respect to question 1: No, the water pipes were not updated on your car. In fact, I don’t think the updated pipes came out until around 2018-2019. So, if they were not changed previously, they need to be changed.

With respect to question 2: This could be a lot of things. My mind first jumps to a vacuum leak - possibly the PCV diaphragm, but you really need more info - like OBDII codes and fuel trim data. If you are planning on doing work yourself, I’d recommend getting a GAP IID tool first thing.

Hello and thanks for the quick response!

As a followup - do you have the part numbers for the latest pipes + pump?

Also, in order to change the pipes, does the supercharger have to be removed?

With regards to the hesitation, as you mentioned i will probably take it to a specialist indie who will run an OBD on it and see what that is, although I hope it is a simple tuneup thing....

Yes, you need to remove the supercharger. Parts lists and how-to is found in these threads:

The one part missing from the list is the intake manifold gasket (x2).

Only the front pipes were redesigned to date (to my knowledge). Rear pipe and waterpump has not been redesigned.

LR090630 - Redesigned “water manifold” part of front crossover
LR092992 - Redesigned “water pipe” (Y-pipe) part of front

Hi

Got the job done today, caught my Indie with no other cars on hand, total job took 3 hours with 3 mechanics working on my car.

Changed:
Front crossover pipe (updated part)
Y pipe
rear crossover pipe
rear hoses
thermostat
water pump + oil cooler connector
2 gallons of coolant

And since the whole thing was already dismantled, changed:

Supercharger coupler
serpentine belt
Supercharger belt
spark plugs
Pcv valve

hopefully it will live for another 5 years

I made sure I got the updated parts of the front crossover (2 parts).

However Im not so sure of the waterpump. I know for a fact these were updated 3 years ago by Jaguar since I own a XK 5.0 2010 model, and as per the jaguar forums the pump got updated 5 times, last being in 2018.

The pump I got has a LR097165 number. Would this be the latest one?

Thanks

curious, if you don't mind, what was the cost from your Indie?
