As a long time Rover owner, I have ran OME kits on all my trucks, and I am looking into putting Rovertym's front offset radius arms on a 04 Disco with a 2" Old Man Emu suspension. Have any of you had experience with these or do you think they make any difference in vehicle handeling with such a small amount of lift. If you have changed out the arms was it straight foreward or a pain in @#s to do the job. (I changed all the suspensions on my other trucks myself so I do have that type of mech. experience)

The reason for the modified radius arms is because when you change the ride height in the front or rear, you change th pinion angle of the front driveshaft. The front differential bolts to the radius arms and when a stiffer/ heavier lift spring is installed, it causes the input drive for the front/rear diff to change its angle, causing increases stress on the u-joints. Installing springs without a lift may cause small vibration in the driveline. Some people can notice it, others cannot. The biggest concern is maxing out the driveshaft's u-joints angle while articulating the axle. This will cause the ujoint to fail. Unless you have a center diff lock, a broken u-joint means you are dead in the water...

Anytime you alter the suspension it will handle differently, it may be so slight you won’t be able to tell the difference, but on modern test equipment it can be measured.

Although not mentally challenging, the task of changing out the radius arms is more physically arduous, (laborious, aka: “P.I.T.A.”), than anything else. The approach angle of the incoming and out going driveline angles have to be within 2 degrees of each other or closer or else a double cardian or constant velocity joint will have to be installed, usually not an issue with 2" lifts. And lengthening brake lines and drivelines and steering arms may become necessary depending on your vehicle, and the amount lifted. Usually the steering wheel has to be re-centered, in most cases. When lifting the 04 disco, the ACE dash light may illuminate, alterations and adjustments may or maynot be necessary depending on your situation, and the lift kit may come with solutions, or modifications to how to adjust, or offer something in aftermarket.
I always abbreviated the saying, “pain in the ass” as….. “P.I.T.A.”.

As with any lift kit, it may help or hurt your situation depending on the results that one is trying to achieve, there is a disadvantage to lift kits in side hill driving, but for a 2” it will be minimal. Personally I see little harm in a 2” lift kit, as opposed to a 12”, and I feel that lift kits are strictly a personal preference and what you like, and want period.

Best wishes…………. Chongo
