The service clock is up to -101. I don't know what it means but obviously I am past due on scheduled service. How much do the scheduled services cost and how often do I need them? My LR3 is at 42000 miles and is warrantied to 50000. Should I buy an extended warranty? I haven't really looked into them or how much they cost, any ideas?

If you plan on keeping the vehicle past 50k, an extended warranty would be a good idea. Mainly because the cost to repair anything which may go wrong, can get costly. My dealer generally charges around $100 for oil changes if you didn't purchase the vehicle from them. I would assume, that's pretty competitive with other dealers?

There are other independent Land Rover mechanics that can service your LR3...
Try the "search" feature up on the upper right-hand side of the thread list... It does work! You can find someone near you that has already asked for a local, independent mechanic. Or, you could do basic service on the vehicle yourself... There are many step-by-step service threads in the forum.

try here for the warranty...

The scheduled service is free while it is under warranty, but it doesn't cover wear items like wipers, tires, brake pads, etc. The service interval is 7500 miles IIRC. You should also check and see if the previous owner recorded the servicing since it doesn't sound like this LR3 was serviced by the dealer, this may help in the future if you do have any warranty claims.

Wow, you've been robbed. You should complain to LRNA and get your Benjamin's back! The service visits are free up to 50,000 (actually, it's every 7,500 miles, so it's really only up to 45,000 miles that service is provided). Doesn't matter where you bought it, as long as it's a LR dealer that is doing the service. They bill LRNA and get reimbursed for your service costs. They are getting paid twice in your case. You've got a legit complaint.

As for warrenty, I would reccommend them normally, and certainly with a Land Rover, but the warrenty company under contract to LR has recently quintupled their rates to ridiculous costs. I am not sure it's a fair trade off anymore. You are talking in the range of $4,000 or more these days.
