Hi all, just wanted to touch base and say "HI". I am a new Owner of an Old Disco. I just traded my Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon for my 96 Discovery SE. It has a few issues which I am working on, but to the advice on these forums, the issues are getting fixed. I am currently in the process of removing and repairing the headliner. I had the waterfall effect the other day and am wanting to find the the culprit"s"....ie....clogged drains. I had a soaked front passenger floorboard, so I cut out the padding under the carpet and found two rust spots, one being through the floorboard. Check engine light probably O2 sensor according to code, surface rust on front pushbar, & tailight covers, and oil soaked underside. All stuff that I am excited about taking on. Just changed the oil today with Full Synthetic ULTRA Pennzoil 10W-40 and FRAM HM-16 filter. Now on to finishing my headliner.:hello:

Wouldn't recommend the Fram oil filter as it doesn't have a very good back flow valve.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Joey. Fram is all I have ever used in the 30+ vehicles I have owned. Does the Land Rover just not agree with it? I am clueless, being this is my first LR. Thanks

The way the oil pump works on this old engine (keep in mind it is a 1960 Buick 215ci engine then redesigned by Rover) it is best to have a good back flow valve on the oil filter to prevent dry starts.

Basically Fram oil filters don't have a good back flow valve allowing the oil to flow back out of the oil pump causing it to dry start ever time. Eventually it can cause premature wear of the oil pump and even the engine. I too used to use Fram's on all my vehicles until I got into rovers and learn this fact. Now I use them on none of my vehicles.

Thanks Joey. What type of filter works best with the 4.0 engine.

I use a K&N filter, but you can buy a gold filter from Napa and there are a few others but I forget what they are right now. I think Mobil one, but can't recall.
